Artist Margareta Kern is interested in the video material made by the film-cooperatives, community groups and video-collectives in support of the miners’ strike 1984. Of special interest are local Miners Video Projects and groups like the Women Against Pit Closures and Women Action Groups.
These are important historical records and documents, and even though some are available in public archives, personal narratives, including miners and support groups own video recordings of the strike are still largely invisible. Additionally, the archives are increasingly needing to charge high fees for making the videos available to the public, hence this project increasingly aims to bring this material into the public sphere and the commons, which is where it was originally intended for.
If you are interested in contributing to the project, or would like to find out more, feel free to contact Margareta on info [at] margaretakern [dot] com
If you have a campaign video or footage of the strike, or any other campaign material that you would like to lend for the project, you are also welcome to bring it or post it, in any format, to Ben Sellers at the People’s Bookshop, Third Floor, The Attic, Saddlers Yard 70, Saddler Street, Durham DH1 3NP / Phone: 0191 384 4399 / http://peoplesbookshop.co.uk/
Thank you very much!!!
